At Greenmount we intend for Computing to be exciting, relevant, practical and most of all, safe. We cover the three strands of computing: Computer Science, information technology and digital literacy in a range of mediums to enable our pupils to be competent, respectful and responsible users of technology.
We implement computing within our curriculum using the Purple Mash scheme. Computing units are taught each term and cover the three stands of computing over the school year. Topics are chosen to build on children’s prior learning to deepen knowledge and build on practical skills. A range of technology including greenscreens, VR headsets, laptops, iPads, audio-experience headsets and robotics kits are used to enhance the curriculum and to provide real life context for computing and apply the skills they have learnt. Online safety is woven throughout the curriculum through PSHE, computing and interactive drama workshops.
The impact of this curriculum will enable our pupils to be capable users of technology, who enjoy using a range of devices and skills bring their ideas to life. They will be able to navigate the online world safely and responsibly, knowing how to keep themselves safe and where to find help when they need it and be well-equipped for a life of using technology.
