Greenmount Primary School’s Councils.

At Greenmount Primary we have our student elected School council and our Eco Council. Both councils have representatives from Years 1 through to 6. Their role is to ensure everyone’s voice is heard and support the implementation of positive changes within our school. They meet once a month.

School Council

This year, our School Council aim:


• Meet regularly to discuss their views and be heard.
• Organise whole school and class events.
• Organise charity days.
• Make sure our school is a happy and safe place for all of our children.
• Make sure children have a place to voice their concerns, opinions, and thoughts.
• Encourage all children in school to suggest ideas and improvements.
• Ensure any suggestions or concerns are listened to and acted upon.

Eco Council

This year, our Eco Council aim:


• Promote the Sustainable Development Goals through whole school events.
• Increase the biodiversity of the school grounds, in particular plant life, birds, small mammals and insects.
• Develop and increase the children’s awareness and application of healthy living.
• Reduce the carbon footprint of the school through reduced energy consumption.
• Increase recycling throughout school, reducing landfill waste.
• Promote the Sustainable Development Goals through whole school events.

Last year our School Council’s achievements were:

• Collecting donations for the Harvest Festival and delivering them to the Trussel Trust.
• Organising and promoting a ‘Break the rules day’ to raise money for Cancer Research.
• Attending the Leeds Youth Summit to have their voices heard by local MPs.
• Planning and carrying out a Bake Sale to raise money for the homeless in Leeds.
• Collecting and sorting second-hand uniform to donate to local families.
• Visiting our local care home and taking part in a variety of activites with the residents.
• Opening our new outdoor classroom that they had help to plan.
• Taking part in a court room workshop to learn about law and democracy in Victorian times.

Last year our Eco Council’s achievements were:

  • Regularly joining our local Green Party MP to pick litter around our local community.
  • Organising and running a whole school ‘Switch off Fortnight’ to help save energy.
  • Helping their peers create Eco-Friendly Christmas decorations for our school Christmas tree.
  • Taking part in a whole school audit of our biodiversity to gain an insight into what we can improve.
  • Planning and running a ‘Walk to School Week’ to encourage families to find a different way to get to school.
  • Going on a trip to Tropical World and learning about animal habitats. Presenting their work to the ‘Running out of Time’ activists who were completing a month long rely race from Ben Nevis to Big Ben.
